May 21, 1991 & Indira Gandhi Memorial, a photolog.

Sriperumbudur, a village approximately 40 km (30 miles) from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

21 May 1991

 Rajiv Gandhi's last public meeting.

Assassinated while campaigning for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Congress candidate. The killing was carried out due to personal animosity of the LTTE chief Prabhakaran towards Gandhi arising out of his sending the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to Sri Lanka and the alleged IPKF atrocities against Sri Lankan Tamils.

It didnt take much time for this crisp pure white kurta to turn into a blood stained blown out bits and pieces...

Had  visited the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, during our visit to Delhi last october, and sharing here some of the images .

Sari worn by Mrs. Indira Gandhi while she was assasinated  in 1984 in reprisal for the storming of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

She was assassinated by her bodyguards as she walked through the garden of her home on the way to a media interview, shortly after bringing her hands together and wishing them “namaste.”

These enclosed crystal pathway in the garden marks Indira Gandhi’s final  footsteps.

  4. My dad is a congress politician and he loved congress just because of this Iron lady Indira Priyadarshini. One bold soul that never feared of anyone except her heart. I still hear stories of her work and about her from my dad's mouth and used to wonder how her boldness inspired many people. I love her for being a real Women. One of my to go places in list...just because i salute that Iron lady forever :)

  5. you might also be shocked to hear this that my dad was just steps away near the stage where Rajiv Gandhi was assasinated. it just happened that bomb blasted people around rajiv gandhi in the form of a circle. he still keeps that blood stained shirt during rajiv gandhi's death. Maragatham chandrashekar aunty was his friend through party.he was just near Thalaivar moopanar after seconds of everything. he was not himself for a week and he took sometime to recover from the whole incident too. rest is a known history about rajiv's death.
